Selling soda or water is a good idea! :)

Another piece of advice... Put a price tag on everything. Many people are hesitant to make offers on items that are unmarked, so as not to offend the seller with a low price.

Good luck!

Put the nicest stuff as close to the street as possible. Put the kids stuff as far away from the street as possible. MANY people do a "drive by", and if they think all you have is clothes and kids stuff, they won't even start. If you have any furniture, put it right out front. CLEAN everything...even the junk. The effort you put into presenting everything as clean as possible will be made up for in increased profit. If an item is dirty, the buyer will work harder to get you to reduce your price. Make your prices reasonable, but leave room for your buyers to bargain with you. Make sure you have LOTS of change. Tons of singles and change change as well. Have a 25 cent box or a 50 cent box (or table, which is better), especially with the kids stuff. Make sure you make the kids stuff "shop-able" for kids...low table or boxes on the ground. People like to let their little ones "shop" at garage sales, but the items have to look clean and they have to be presented in a safe way. You'd be surprised how quickly 25 cent items can add up. If you have kids old enough, let them do a good old fashioned lemonade stand to sell the soda (and some lemonade). Many adults can't say no to a cute kid trying to sell a glass of lousy lemonade (and it's perfectly fair for you to put your kids to work. Just pay them a small "salary"...a good lesson about making money). Anyway, good luck!
